About Westwind - Our History
Westwind opened its doors in 1998 as Westwind Eating Disorder Recovery Centre, a five bed residential program founded and directed under Bryan Gusdal. Bryan brought with him over 30 years of clinical experience, including his career as a clinical psychologist working with adult and adolescent clients. Westwind soon drew attention as Canada’s first private treatment facility.
Since its opening, Westwind has grown and expanded. In 2010 Westwind moved to its current facility, in order to accommodate its expanding services. Westwind continued to draw attention throughout Canada and the international community, and became known for its strong evidence based clinical practice, and collaborative treatment philosophy.
In the spring of 2013, Westwind came under new ownership under Tresa Clemmesen and Valarie Bittner. Both Tresa and Valarie brought with them ten years of clinical experience working in the field of eating disorders, including their experience as counsellors at Westwind Eating Disorder Recovery Centre. Westwind Counselling is excited to build on its strong foundation with the addition of new services including the Online Treatment Programs, and expanded Counselling and Dietitian Services, offered in person and online, for eating disorders, body image, self esteem, depression, anxiety and stress, as well as community workshops and groups.
Thank you for your interest in Westwind Counselling – we are committed to promoting healthy eating, body acceptance, self esteem and overall emotional wellness to women and girls around the world!
