About Westwind - Our Treatment Model

At Westwind, we want to offer the best treatment possible. Our staff are trained in evidence based modes of therapy, in order to deliver treatment that is demonstrated to be effective through clinical studies. This is incorporated into our treatment across all our services including Westwind Eating Disorder Recovery Centre, the Online Treatment Programs, and our Counselling and Dietitian Services.

Treatment addresses physical, mental and emotional healing, in order to address all aspects of the problem. Our aim is help you gain control and a sense of empowerment, so you can have confidence maintaining healthy changes outside of treatment.

Our primary modes of therapy include Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) in addition to graduated exposure and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT).

Cognitive Behavior Therapy
CBT will help you understand the thoughts and feelings that influence your behaviors. The goal of CBT is to gain insight into problematic beliefs, and then learn how to challenge these beliefs by practicing new skills and ways of responding to your environment.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy
ACT encourages you to accept what is out of your personal control, and commit to action that improves and enriches your life. One goal of ACT is to teach mindfulness skills to cope with painful thoughts and feelings effectively. ACT will also help you identify your values and what is truly important and meaningful to you, and then use that knowledge to guide you to make changes in your life to reflect these values.
